Edmonton Oilers' Mega 50/50 Raffle Honours Two Young Hockey Players Lost in Tragedy

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) has launched the 'This is Oil Country' Mega 50/50 raffle to honour two young hockey players lost in a tragic accident. Kayla Peacock and Danica Hills, both U18 members of the Jasper Bearcats, died in a car crash near Jasper, Alberta, on November 19, 2024. Proceeds from the raffle will support local recovery efforts and youth hockey programmes in their memory.

The raffle, presented by Rogers, runs until 11:00 PM on April 4, 2023, coinciding with the Oilers' home game against the Vegas Golden Knights. Over 100 early-bird prizes are up for grabs, including signed Oilers memorabilia, game tickets, gift cards, a Yeti cooler, and cash rewards. Participants who buy $100 worth of tickets also receive extra perks, such as additional gift cards and a digital trading card from Upper Deck. A separate Bonus Raffle continues until June 22, 2023.

All funds raised will aid Jasper's rebuilding through three key groups: the **Jasper Community Team Society (JCTS)**, which focuses on resident wellness and resilience; the **Friends of Jasper National Park**, promoting education, park access, and food security; and the **Hinton and Jasper Minor Hockey Associations**, where Peacock and Hills once played. Originally, the U18 Jasper Bearcats had **18 players**—their loss left a lasting impact on the team and community.

The raffle directly supports the town's recovery while celebrating the lives of Peacock and Hills. Their legacy will help sustain local hockey programmes and community initiatives in Jasper and Hinton. Tickets remain available until the April 4 deadline, with additional chances to win in the extended Bonus Raffle.
