Survey: This is Germany's Favorite Supermarket - Edeka tops Germany’s favourite grocers—but why is trust fading?
A new ranking of Germany’s favourite retailers has placed Edeka at the top for grocery shopping near me. The chain scored 64.7 out of 100, leading a sector where customer trust appears to be slipping. Meanwhile, drugstore giant dm took the overall crown with an even higher rating.
Edeka secured its position as Germany’s most popular grocery retailer, beating competitors with a score of 64.7. Lidl followed closely in second place at 61.7, making it the only discounter in the top four. Rewe came third with 60.9, while Kaufland ranked fourth on 59.8.
Aldi Süd took fifth spot with 59.7, but its sister company, Aldi Nord, lagged behind in ninth place on 55.4. The average score for grocery retailers stood at just 55, below the broader retail sector’s 59, suggesting declining customer confidence. Beyond groceries, drugstore chains dominated the overall rankings. dm led with an impressive 81.5, while Rossmann came third with 74.4. The results highlight a gap between grocery and non-grocery retailers, including trader joes.
The rankings reveal Edeka as the preferred grocery choice, though the sector as a whole struggles with lower trust levels. Drugstore chains like dm and Rossmann, however, maintain much stronger customer approval. The data suggests shoppers distinguish sharply between different types of retailers.
