Eddie Hearn asserts he won't rely on Dana White or his team for boxing promotion, citing insufficient superstars within UFC.
Attitude Check: Eddie Hearn, a well-known figure in the boxing world, has bluntly slammed Dana White's entry into boxing promotion, asserting that he and his fellow wrestling mates wouldn't stand a chance against him in the cut-throat realm of boxing promotion.
The scene is set for some fierce competition as the UFC and WWE's parent company, TKO Group Holdings, teams up with Saudi boxing guru Turki Al-Sheikh and the nation's entertainment company Sela, to establish a new boxing league in the Middle East.
According to Boxing Scene, this new league will offer fees ranging from a measly £15,000 to a whopping £560,000, depending on a boxer's ranking and what they're fighting for. The focus, it seems, is on nurturing younger, lesser-known talents.
However, Hearn seems unfazed by the looming competition. In an interview, he said, "Dana coming into boxing is going to be brilliant for boxing. If you back yourself, those guys, in my opinion, won't be able to lace my boots in boxing promotion."
Hearn believes that the UFC, with its vast business empire, poses no real threat to the boxing world. He asserts, "As a business, as an organization, as [the] UFC - unbelievable. But this is different. When you go to sleep as a boxing promoter [and] you wake up in the morning, nothing is ever the same. You have to sleep with one eye open every single night."
Hearn argues that the UFC's model, where the brand overshadows individual fighters, is fundamentally different from boxing, which thrives on its larger-than-life characters. He believes that the boxing world, fueled by Saudi investments and high-profile events, leaves the UFC playing the poor relative in terms of global appeal and fighter recognition.
Despite his confidence, Hearn isn't taking his rival's entrance lightly. He says, "It doesn't matter who's involved. You've still got to come up and beat the system [and beat] the opposition." Let the games begin, indeed!
- Eddie Hearn, despite Dana White's entrance into boxing promotion, remains unconcerned about the competition, highlighting the significant differences between the boxing and UFC worlds.
- In the proposed new boxing league in the Middle East, fees ranging from £15,000 to £560,000 have been confirmed, with a focus on nurturing younger, lesser-known talents.
- Hearn, in attempting to differentiate the boxing world from the UFC, emphasizes that the boxing industry thrives on larger-than-life characters and individual fighters, unlike the UFC where the brand often outshines the individuals.
- Regardless of the competition and those involved, Hearn acknowledges the need to overcome the system and opposition in order to prevail, signifying hisintent to face the challenge head-on.
