Ecuador's current president vows to combat "elite rule" and "criminal syndicates"

In his inaugural speech for the 2025-2029 term, newly re-elected Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa sounded a clarion call against corruption and organized crime, which he described as obstacles to the nation's progress. Representing the largest fortune in the country, Noboa asserted the necessity of creating a secure, prosperous, and competitive environment that promotes investments while providing genuine opportunities.

The ceremony was attended by delegations from 74 countries, including the presidents of Colombia and Peru—Having shared borders with both nations, the event marked a significant diplomatic milestone. Noboa's father, banana magnate Álvaro Noboa, five-time presidential candidate, could not participate due to health reasons. The president lauded the attendance of international guests as a credible sign of global confidence in Ecuador.

Emphasizing his administration's commitment to trade liberalization, Noboa invited close, both public and private, ties with the international community so that Ecuador could reach its full potential and reverse the impact of self-serving interests. Stating his belief that "Ecuador is preparing every day to welcome foreign investors with open doors and a clear vision," he encouraged the world to explore the nation's real potential.

During his speech, following his swearing-in ceremony, Noboa announced the continuation of his fight against organized crime—a root cause of the surging violence that had placed Ecuador at the top of Latin American homicide rankings. In tandem with this effort, he plans to address corruption, which affects both economic development and the rule of law.

A comprehensive approach to facilitate the safe economic growth of Ecuador, Noboa's plans encompass strengthening public-private collaboration, forging international partnerships, and fostering a stable business environment. The goal is to tackle the root causes of the nation's current social and economic challenges.
