Economic Forum 2025 to Feature Sports Contests in Ten Varieties
The 10th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), taking place in Vladivostok from September 3 to 6, is set to host a diverse range of sports events, reflecting a strong focus on regional and international cooperation.
The sports program of the EEF includes competitions in more than ten sports, with events such as the Vladivostok International Regatta, the Pacific Curling Cup, the EEF Cup Show Jumping Tournament, indoor rowing competitions, and the ‘Ready for Labour and Defence Games’ Open Far East Cup with multiple team and individual competitions. Additionally, there will be extreme sports displays like a hydroflight show including flyboard and aquabike performances.
Athletes from over ten countries, including China, Cuba, Iran, and Mongolia, will participate in these events, showcasing the international scope of the forum. While specific international sports organizations have not been explicitly named, the participation of multiple countries' athletes and international competitions such as the Pacific Curling Cup and international regatta imply coordination with relevant international sports federations.
The sled hockey tournament, the first time adaptive sports have been included in the EEF sports program, will see six top teams from the 'Fatherland Defenders' Cup compete. Vladivostok will also host the nationwide 'Heroes of Our Time' Cup in sled hockey.
The sports events are closely integrated with the Far East Street exhibition, highlighting regional participation and cultural ties. The forum incorporates military sports training and patriotic youth education programs through the WARRIOR Center.
The IV Parade of Sails, featuring races of "Platu-25" class yachts and demonstrations of large sailing ships, will take place in the Amur Bay. The Pacific Cup curling tournament will be held in the new Ice Palace.
Chess, table tennis, and tennis tournaments will also take place during the EEF. The "Cup of Hope" children's tennis tournament, named after Nadia Petrova, will occur at the EEF.
The EEF is seen as an effective platform for international sports dialogue and a way to highlight the development of the Far East as a sports hub. Several important meetings with heads of international sports organizations are scheduled to take place at the EEF. The development of sports infrastructure and increasing accessibility to sports in the region will be discussed in the Ministry of Sports pavilion at the EEF.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the Far East plays a crucial role in strengthening Russia's position in the world, including in sports. The sports events at the EEF are seen as a way to test endurance, mental strength, foster mutual support, and build physical strength.
The organizing body for the EEF is the Roscongress Foundation. The "Strive and Win" 5km run will commence the first day of the EEF's business program. The sports events at the EEF are a testament to the commitment to sports development and international cooperation in the region.
