A New Tradition at the Ebersberger Volksfest: The Burschenwahl

The Ebersberger Volksfest, a celebrated event steeped in Bavarian culture, welcomed a new tradition this year with the introduction of the Burschenwahl. This traditional election saw a young man, Ebersberger Johannes Reischl, crowned as the winner.

The Burschenwahl, an event that typically involves voting or selection by fellow participants or community members, is a significant part of the Volksfest. Here, local customs and cultural pride are emphasized, often tied to the Gauverband and Trachtenverein (traditional costume associations) in the region.

Seven candidates vied for the Burschenwahl title: Philipp Schwab, Ahmet Kara, David Eisenhöld, Florian Obermaier, Georg Riedmaier, Schorsch Riedmaier, and Thomas Kraißer. The competition was fierce, with each candidate showcasing their skills in various challenges.

The first challenge, "Maßkrug-Stemmen", required strength and coordination to spin a full Maßkrug (a large beer stein) over one's own body with minimal spillage. Tom Kraißer demonstrated his entertaining skills during this competition, while Schorsch Riedmaier finished in third place.

The second competition required knowledge about the ingredients of Weißwurscht (a type of sausage), the Ebersberger Volksfest, and Bavaria becoming a free state. The third discipline was flipping a bottle cap as far as possible, made more challenging by using tools like a coin or a laundry clip. For the final task, the candidates had to climb a beer table without touching the ground, a physically demanding task.

The jury for the Burschenwahl consisted of Claudia Möbius from Hallo and Ebersberger Zeitung, Rosi Schuhegger (Bräurosl 2024), and Sepp Riedl (the first chairman of the Ebersberger Volksfestverein). Felix Richter and Thomas Urban, known from the Grafinger Varieté, served as the event's moderators. They demonstrated their improvisation skills and wit, providing great entertainment throughout the Burschenwahl.

The winners of the Burschenwahl received various prizes such as a table in the Hacker tent at the Wiesn, Haferlschuhe, and vouchers for the Ebersberger Volksfest. The Burschenwahl, a premiere at the Ebersberg Volksfest, marked a new event in the program history.
