Disappointments and Transfer Expectations that Irked Eberl during the World Cup - Eberl's discontent at the World Cup:

Hey there!

Max Eberl is keeping a sharp eye on the team's performance at the Club World Cup in the States, all while trying to sort out the frenzy of the transfer market, especially in Europe. The FC Bayern's sporting director still has some tweaks to make before the new season begins.

And wherever Max embarks in these days, you'll find reporters buzzing about potential departures or fresh, high-profile signings. So, when's something going to happen?

In response, Eberl, after the beginning game in Cincinnati, drops a casual reference: "What's the date today? And how long is the transfer window open? Until September 1st. There's still plenty of water flowing down the Isar - or the Ohio River."

What's keeping Eberl up at night?

Eberl admits that it's just part of the business. Yet, it's the never-ending transfer rumors and potential sales candidates that trouble him. Players like Kingsley Coman, Min-jae Kim, Sacha Boey, Serge Gnabry, or João Palhinha are all rumored to be leaving. Saving on their transfer fees and wages would make Eberl's task as a buyer easier.

So far, he has got deals done with national players, Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen) and Tom Bischof (TSG Hoffenheim), who are competing in the World Cup. Alternatively, three offensive players are departing - along with Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané, the youngster Mathys Tel was sold permanently for around 35 million to Tottenham Hotspur after his loan term ended.

A word for Kimmich

At this point, there's a need for reinforcements in the attack. Eberl has already admitted this, followed by sports director Christoph Freund saying "Our aim is to strengthen ourselves there and bring in quality." Joshua Kimmich echoed similar thoughts, prompting a stern rebuke from Eberl: "Jo is on the field - and I'm working behind the scenes."

Transfer matters can also be settled on the pitch. Sacha Boey, serving as the third-choice right-back, impressed with a goal and more, during the 10-0 rout against Auckland City. Coman even managed to score twice, showcasing a 45-minute powerhouse performance against an opponent that, admittedly, didn't provide a proper benchmark.

The Frenchman has been with the club since 2015. His contract extends for another two years. However, the 29-year-old is injury-prone. Despite this, Eberl and coach Vincent Kompany have expressed support for Coman when discussing him as a transfer candidate. "King brings his performance. He's a brilliant player that delivered a fantastic season last year, if he stays fit, in my opinion. And he's been fit throughout, which is the most important thing for King," said Eberl.

What fans must not forget about Coman

Kompany stays away from transfer conversations during the World Cup - at least in public. But he did share some sports insights about Coman: "When we talk about his quality, it's important not to forget that he scores crucial goals. I know sometimes people only look at the quantity, 20 season goals, 15 goals. But he's netted important goals in the club's history."

His most important goal was the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. "If he stays healthy, we've got a top winger at our disposal," said Kompany. The buying and selling story in Munich appears to be in a constant state of flux.
