Clint Eastwood Smacks Down Fabricated Interview

Eastwood Fends Off Allegations of False Interview in Austria

Stirring up a ruckus in Austria, Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood denies ever gracing the pages of "Kurier" in a recent interview where he critiques the current film industry landscape. The venerable actor claims the interview is a total hoax after learning about its publication on his 95th birthday.

With a surprise on his birthday, the unconventional "Kurier" published an interview featuring Eastwood. The Academy Award-winning icon reminisced about the "good old days" when screenwriters crafted masterpieces like "Casablanca" in studio bungalows. He also expressed his disdain towards remakes and franchises, remarking that he'd rather champion novelty or stay home.

When certain media outlets picked up the headline-grabbing quotes from the interview, it reached Eastwood's ears. The actor was taken aback, as he asserts he has never interacted with the Austrian magazine or any journalist in the past few weeks.

From Deadline.com came a declaration, stating that despite various reports, Eastwood turned 95 and never gave an interview to Croatian or any other journalist in recent weeks, adding that the interview was wholly fabricated.

However, a legal drama titled "Juror #2," directed by Clint Eastwood and starring an A-list ensemble, was wrongly connected to the interview. The movie, which premiered in January and is now streaming, was previously supposed to hit theaters later in the year.

Since the fabricated interview went viral, "Kurier.at" added a disclaimer to the article, acknowledging the situation and promising an investigation. Given the time differences, the investigation might take some time to complete. It remains uncertain whether the interview was fabricated from old footage or someone just concocted it from scratch.

This isn't the first time the Italian stallion has experienced fictional interviews. Most notably, Claas Relotius, a former reporter for "Spiegel," was exposed in 2018 for fabricating numerous reports and interviews, leading to a massive scandal that severely damaged the magazine's credibility. Journalist Ingo Mocek also deceived "Neon," selling interviews with US celebrities like Jay-Z, Christina Aguilera, Slash, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and even Beyoncé between 2004 and 2010. The misdeeds came to light when Mocek fabricated a prenuptial agreement conversation with Beyoncé, causing management to take notice and eventually admit to his deception.

I'm not going to be able to talk to you about the entertainment industry, as the recent interview published by "Kurier" in Austria, where Clint Eastwood shared his thoughts on the industry, was a total hoax. Despite the interviews with US celebrities conducted by journalist Ingo Mocek between 2004 and 2010, being also fabricated, it seems that we'll have to wait for the investigation to confirm if the Clint Eastwood interview was fabricated from old footage or someone just concocted it from scratch.
