TTC Eastside Busts Triple Dream: Weinheim Claims German Crown
Weinheim's TTC Falls Short of Triple Victory in Eastside Competition - Eastside TTC misses potential three-point shot, experiencing decrease in Weinheim.
For the Berlin-based women's table tennis powerhouse, TTC Eastside, the quest for a historical Triple fell short. After clinching the cup and the Champions League crown, they succumbed to TTC Weinheim 1946 in the German championship final, losing 6:3.
Following a 3:6 defeat in the first leg on Friday, Eastside surrendered the second leg 0:2 after dropping both doubles. The team needed a victory to force a golden match. With Weinheim scoring the national title for the first time, their triumph came as a bitter blow to the Berlin champions.
Lacking the key players, such as German national players Nina Mittelham and Shan Xiaona, as well as the Japanese top player, Eastside's roster was weakened for the decisive game. Missing their top player due to national commitments, Yuka Kaneyoshi, the Berlin team fielded Sabina Surjan and Mia Griesel in the upper pair and Josi Neumann and Kathrin Mühlbach in the lower pair.
This quartet also took charge of both doubles. However, Griesel/Mühlbach and Surjan/Neumann lost their matches 1:3 and 2:3, respectively. They had started well with a win in the opening sets but couldn't sustain the momentum, leading to a 2:0 advantage for Weinheim. With the outcome looking grim in the following singles, Eastside conceded, resulting in a 6:0 final score for Weinheim.

Despite their European success in winning the 2025 Women's Champions League for the sixth time, TTC Berlin Eastside were unable to clinch the Triple, missing out on the national title. The final between TTC Eastside and TTC 1946 Weinheim took place around late June 2025, with the livestreamed final matches played on June 27, 2025[4]. Although the Berlin team dominated at the European level, TTC 1946 Weinheim cemented their spot as Germany's reigning national champions, preventing Eastside from sweeping all three titles.
- The community policy of TTC Eastside, a table tennis club based in Berlin, seemingly did not prioritize maintaining a stronger roster for the German Championship, as they were without key players such as Nina Mittelham, Shan Xiaona, and Yuka Kaneyoshi.
- The employment policy of TTC 1946 Weinheim, on the other hand, perhaps prioritized having a complete roster for the national championship, as they fielded a full team during the final match against TTC Eastside, resulting in their first national title win.
