Easter Holidays in the North - Events and Available Rooms for Spontaneous Visitors - Easter travel surge in Schleswig-Holstein leaves last-minute options open

Easter bookings in Schleswig-Holstein are rising fast, with many holidaymakers securing trips for 2024 well in advance. By the start of 2026, nearly 45% of that year's reservations in Holstein had already been made. Despite the high demand, last-minute travellers can still find vacancies in several parts of the region.

The Easter holiday period in Schleswig-Holstein runs from March 26 to April 10. Popular spots like Sylt and Lübeck Bay are seeing strong interest, with Sylt reporting steady bookings and last-minute options still open. In Lübeck Bay, Easter reservations match 2023 levels, though many are now made with shorter notice.

Overall, overnight stays in the region have grown by 8–12% annually from 2022 to 2025 compared to 2019–2021. Spontaneous bookings now account for over 40% of reservations, while the average stay has shortened to 3.2 nights. Data from the Schleswig-Holstein Statistical Office and the IWK Institute confirms this shift. Beyond Sylt and Lübeck Bay, destinations such as Büsum, Kiel, and the Duchy of Lauenburg still have available accommodations. Many areas also host special Easter events, including egg hunts, bonfires, and concerts. To support local infrastructure, 191 municipalities in Schleswig-Holstein—recognised as spa or holiday resorts—can choose to charge a resort tax. Daily rates vary depending on the location.

The trend towards shorter, last-minute bookings continues to shape tourism in Schleswig-Holstein. With 45% of 2024's reservations already secured by early 2026, demand remains high. Yet, options for spontaneous travellers still exist in less crowded areas.
