It all began on May 20th, when the tigeress Stormi gave birth to five cubs, as reported by Thüringen24. "A very rare event," the Zoo Magdeburg stated on its Facebook page. However, tragedy struck on Wednesday, when we learned that one of the tiger cubs did not survive.
"After our continuous monitoring, we suspect a tragic incident occurred. During a rest phase, Stormi, unfortunately, lay on one of her cubs. It was probably crushed beneath her heavy body," the zoo vented on its social media. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.
