East Kazakhstan Braces for Harsh Winter with Extensive Preparations

East Kazakhstan is preparing for a challenging winter, with timely storm warnings and extensive stockpiling of resources. The region braces for colder-than-average December and January, followed by a warmer February.

The regional authorities have ensured timely storm warnings through close coordination with Kazhydromet. They have also stockpiled essential supplies, including 140,000 liters of fuel and lubricants, de-icing materials, 50 tons of technical salt, and 800 tons of coal to combat the harsh conditions.

Road maintenance is a top priority. Over 2,500 warning markers, 1,666 artificial structures, and 96 bridges have been cleared, and snow fences have been set up. Additionally, 957 units of road maintenance equipment have been mobilized for the upkeep of public roads. Seven warming stations and one roadside medical rescue post are active to ensure safety.

The public is kept informed through various channels. Alerts are disseminated via SMS notifications, the Dermen mobile app, television, radio, and 48 siren-based public address systems. The region expects strong winds of up to 20 m/s and periods of near-zero visibility.

East Kazakhstan's winter preparations are comprehensive, with adequate stockpiling, road maintenance, and public alerts. The region is ready to face the expected cold December and January, followed by a warmer February.
