Construction boom in the East - Public construction lags - East Germany’s construction boom hits €16.8 billion in 2025 orders
East Germany's construction sector has seen a sharp rise in demand during the first three quarters of 2025. Total order volumes jumped by 16.3%, pushing the value to over €16.8 billion. The surge comes as large industrial projects in Brandenburg lead the way.
A few major developments in Brandenburg have driven much of the growth. Commercial construction orders climbed by 33.4%, while residential building contracts rose by 13.9%. However, public-sector work fell behind, with overall orders down by 1.1% compared to last year. Road construction contracts alone dropped by 10.4%.
The sector's growth has been uneven, with industrial and commercial projects boosting orders but public works lagging. Despite higher revenues, inflation has cut into real earnings for construction firms. The coming months will show whether this trend continues.
