East German Leaders Secure Prominent Positions: Success Announced by the Commissioner of the Eastern Council

The German federal government, under the leadership of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has unveiled a new initiative aimed at increasing the representation of East Germans in leadership positions within its own administration. This initiative, known as the "federal concept," seeks to address the current underrepresentation of East Germans in top and middle management roles within federal administration authorities.

According to the figures released alongside the announcement, around 20% of the population in Germany are East Germans. However, these figures also show that East Germans are significantly underrepresented in leadership positions.

Elisabeth Kaiser, a member of the SPD and born in Gera, Thuringia, has issued a statement in support of this initiative. Kaiser, who is also encouraged by the progress made at the division head level, highlighted the development as a significant step forward.

Kaiser's statement underscores the progress made at the division head level, with the current Federal Minister heading the central authorities, Stefanie Hubig, Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection as of May 6, 2025, being an East German.

The federal government's commitment to increasing the proportion of East Germans in leadership positions is not a new one. Even the government of Friedrich Merz, a previous Chancellor, had expressed its intention to stick to this goal.

Elisabeth Kaiser, expressing her encouragement for the federal government's efforts, stated that active tackling of the issue makes a difference. She believes that this initiative will help to create a more balanced representation within the federal administration, reflecting the diversity of the German population as a whole.

This initiative is a significant step towards promoting equality and fair representation in the German federal administration. As the government works towards implementing this concept, it is hoped that we will see a more inclusive and representative leadership in the future.
