Early Winter Snow Dusts Germany and Switzerland in November
Early winter snow has arrived in parts of Germany and Switzerland this November. The first watch of snow fell in the Eifel region on St. Elizabeth’s Day, a time when cold polar air often clashes with milder maritime conditions. This brief snowfall brought a taste of winter to higher ground, though warmer weather is already on the way.
The snow line dropped to around 400 metres, allowing light snow to form in elevated areas. Southern Germany, including Munich, also saw scattered flurries. Such conditions in mid-November are not unusual—historically, the first 'trial' snow often appears around this time.
The brief snowfall served as a seasonal preview rather than a lasting shift. Temperatures will rise again soon, delaying any sustained winter conditions. For now, the weather remains unsettled, with alternating cold and mild phases.
