Eagles lock in Dallas Goedert with $7M deal, avoid $20M penalty

The Philadelphia Eagles have secured tight end Dallas Goedert with a new one-year contract worth $7 million. The deal comes after a standout 2025 season and avoids a costly financial penalty for the team.

Meanwhile, trade discussions around wide receiver AJ Brown have quietened, though interest from other clubs remains.

Goedert, drafted by the Eagles in 2018, has spent his entire career with the franchise. His latest agreement includes a $4.25 million signing bonus and follows a 2025 campaign where he recorded 591 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. The team had previously adjusted his contract in 2022, raising its value to $11 million.

Negotiations intensified as the deadline for his previous deal's void date approached. Had no agreement been reached by Monday, the Eagles would have faced a dead money charge exceeding $20 million. Goedert also played a key role in the team's Super Bowl LIX victory.

Elsewhere, trade speculation around AJ Brown has slowed. The Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots had shown interest, but talks have since faded. The Rams currently have $33.8 million in cap space allocated to receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua.

Goedert's new contract ensures he remains with the Eagles for another season. The team avoids a significant financial hit while retaining a veteran playmaker. As for AJ Brown, his future with Philadelphia remains uncertain, though trade activity has stalled for now.
