Jakorian Bennett Joins Philadelphia Eagles' Secondary Ahead of 2025 Season
The Philadelphia Eagles have bolstered their secondary with the addition of cornerback Jakorian Bennett, who was acquired in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for defensive tackle Thomas Booker.
Bennett, who is entering his third season in the NFL, played 10 games for the Raiders last season before a shoulder injury (torn labrum) ended his year in Week 11. During those games, he participated in 71% of the team's defensive snaps, recording 26 combined tackles and eight passes defended.
The Eagles have already secured the services of key players Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, who are returning to the team's secondary from Super Bowl LIX. DeJean made headlines with his interception of Patrick Mahomes and subsequent touchdown return, while Mitchell finished the 2024 postseason with four passes defended and two interceptions.
Kelee Ringo is the only other returning cornerback who played in Super Bowl LIX for the Eagles. The team has also added Adoree' Jackson and Mac McWilliams to their secondary.
With Mitchell and DeJean presumably locked in as starters, it'll be up to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and his staff to determine the next in line. Bennett has a chance to earn meaningful reps for the reigning champs, given depth questions behind the Eagles' two stars at corner.
Fangio has not ruled out the possibility of Bennett starting in the Eagles' secondary, although it remains to be seen how the competition for playing time will unfold during the 2025 season. Most of the Eagles' defensive linemen from the championship team are still with the franchise, providing Bennett with a strong foundation to build upon.
