Heavy Rain and Stormy Weather Forecast for Germany
Germany is bracing for a wet and stormy start to next week, according to meteorologist Sonja Stueckle from the German Weather Service (DWD). From Monday onwards, various regions across the country are expected to experience heavy rainfall and stormy weather, particularly in southern and northeastern Germany.
Southern Germany (Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria) will continue to face heavy rain and severe thunderstorms, with potential for up to 150 liters per square meter of rain by Tuesday. The rain front will move over the Alps, bringing hail and strong gusts, especially south of a line from Saarland to Dresden. Flooding and high water levels are possible between the Black Forest and the Bavarian Forest.
Northeastern Germany (Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony-Anhalt, and Saxony) is under a level 3 storm warning on Monday, with forecasted rainfall of up to 100 liters per square meter in 12 hours, winds up to 80 km/h, hail, and flooding risks. The worst of the storm is expected to pass by Monday evening, but rough weather might extend into Tuesday, especially in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Berlin and Brandenburg will see heavy persistent rain on Monday afternoon, potentially causing flooded streets and cellars, with rainfall up to 40 liters per square meter.
Northern parts of Germany, north of the line from Saarland to Saxony, can expect generally friendlier weather with some clearings but occasional showers or isolated thunderstorms.
By early August (as of August 5), the rainy weather is expected to end in Bavaria, with forecasts for sunshine and temperatures rising up to 32°C, indicating a return of summer warmth after the stormy period.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has stated that the northeast region will experience the driest conditions. The weather forecast suggests that Saturday and Sunday will be mostly rainy, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 24 degrees Celsius. A final cold front will move from northwest to southeast on Tuesday, after which temperatures in the south of Germany will gradually rise and the weather will become partly sunny.
In northern Germany, a storm will cause windy conditions, with gusts reaching storm force at the coasts and in the high north. On Sunday, scattered showers and individual thunderstorms will occur across Germany, with the west and southwest experiencing the most sun. The weekend weather in Germany is expected to be mostly cloudy, rainy, and moderately warm, and it is not expected to be summer-like.
Meteorologist Stueckle predicts a change in the weather pattern starting from the beginning of next week, with wind being minor in the coming days but can briefly become strong to stormy in conjunction with showers and thunderstorms. The weather forecast does not indicate significant wind activity for the majority of the weekend.
The weather forecast for Southern Germany (Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria) predicts heavy rain and severe thunderstorms, with potential for up to 150 liters per square meter of rain by Tuesday. Weather-forecasting by the German Weather Service (DWD) shows that Northeastern Germany (Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony-Anhalt, and Saxony) is under a level 3 storm warning, with forecasted rainfall of up to 100 liters per square meter in 12 hours.
