E-bike theft at March-Hugstetten station leaves police hunting two suspects

An e-bike was stolen from March-Hugstetten station on the evening of Monday, March 9, 2026. Two suspects were seen carrying the bike away before abandoning it nearby. Police are now searching for witnesses to help with their investigation.

Around 5:30 p.m., a witness spotted two individuals taking the e-bike from the station. Both were dressed in dark hooded sweatshirts and black jogging pants, with dark hair. Their ages were estimated between 18 and 25.

The suspects first tried to break the bike's lock on the cycle path. When that failed, they moved it to Im Bemmenstein street and left it hidden in a thicket. They then escaped on an e-scooter with no visible licence plate.

Investigators believe their getaway route followed Im Bemmenstein street. The Breisach police precinct is handling the case and has asked anyone with further information to come forward.

This incident follows a separate case in Marktredwitz (Bavaria) on February 24, 2026, where three suspected e-bike thieves—a 41-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, and a 22-year-old woman—were arrested after a night-time police operation supported by a helicopter. Two of the men remain in custody on charges of serious gang theft and burglary. Eight stolen bikes worth €14,000 were recovered during the operation.

The Breisach police continue to investigate the March-Hugstetten theft. No further arrests or updates have been reported since March 9, 2026. The criminal police in Hof are also pursuing leads in the earlier Marktredwitz case.
