Vermeij, born on August 9, 1994, in Blaricum, Netherlands, began his football journey at HSV Zuidvogels before making his way to Germany. His career path includes Ajax Amsterdam, De Graafschap, Heracles Almelo, FC Den Bosch, MSV Duisburg, SC Freiburg II, Fortuna Düsseldorf, and now Dynamo Dresden.

Thomas Brendel, the sporting director of Dynamo Dresden, praised Vermeij's knowledge of the 2. Bundesliga and its demands, having previously worked with him at SC Freiburg. Brendel also highlighted Vermeij's height and technique, stating that he will add another dimension to the Dynamo Dresden squad.
