Brocken's White Makeover Expected This Weekend

Prepare for a wintery spectacle as the Brocken in the Harz Mountains might don a fresh layer of snow this weekend. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), snowfall is imminent from Friday night, lasting well into the following days.

A DWD spokesperson confirmed the forecast, predicting a wintry spell starting from Friday. Despite a brief thaw on Wednesday, with frost in the Harz Mountains, and anticipated temperatures reaching seven degrees during Thursday, accompanied by rain, the weather service forecasts a chilly turn of events for the weekend.

On Saturday, November 11, the Brocken saw its first snowfall of the season nearly two weeks ago, marking the start of the winter months. A look back in history reveals that the first snowfall on the Brocken occurred on September 24, 2018, and in the 2020 winter season, the first snow graced the 1141-meter-high mountain on November 19.

DWD's predictions suggest that snow could linger on the Brocken starting from Friday night, marking the kickoff of a cold spell. Thus, the increasingly frosty weather could add another layer of snow onto the mountain, providing a breathtaking winterscene for passersby.
