Queen Máxima radiant in white lace dress - Dutch royals begin historic state visit to strengthen Suriname ties

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have begun a three-day state visit to Suriname. The trip, running from December 1 to 3, focuses on deepening ties between the two united nations. Their arrival in Paramaribo was met with a warm welcome from President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons and enthusiastic schoolchildren lining the streets.

The royal couple’s first official act was laying a wreath at the statue of Mama Sranan, a symbol of Surinamese heritage. Queen Máxima chose a white lace dress for the occasion, paired with beige pumps, a clutch, and a wide-brimmed straw hat.

Their schedule includes visits to a children’s museum and a community centre in Latour. On Tuesday evening, they will attend a concert by a Dutch singer-songwriter with Surinamese roots. The following day, the pair will take a boat trip and tour a former coffee and cocoa plantation, now an educational centre under the department of education.

The visit aims to foster cooperation, cultural exchange, and future partnerships between Suriname and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The state visit wraps up on December 3 after a series of engagements. Meetings with local leaders, cultural events, and educational visits form the core of the programme. Both nations have highlighted the importance of strengthening their long-standing relationship.
