In a repeat of their historical dominance, the Dutch women's hockey team defeated Germany 5:1 in their second group game of the European Championship. This victory marks the seventh consecutive win for the Dutch team in EuroHockey finals against their German counterparts.

The Dutch team started the game on a strong note, taking a 3:0 lead in the first quarter. Goals from Frederique Matla and captain Pien Sanders set the tone for the match, with the third goal coming from Freeke Moes without the German team touching the ball.

Pien Sanders, who played her 150th international match for the Dutch team, scored again before half-time, making it 4:1 for the Dutch team. Marijn Veen scored the fifth goal for the Dutch team in the final phase of the game.

Lena Micheel scored a consolation goal for the German team from a penalty corner in the 19th minute. However, it was too little, too late for the Germans, who have not managed to win against the Dutch team at a European Championship for 18 years.

The defending champion of the European Championship is currently leading the group A table with six points. The Netherlands will meet France in the final round of games in the group A table, while the German team needs a win against Ireland in their final group game to still make it to the semi-finals.

The game between Germany and Ireland will be played on Wednesday at 8:00 PM and can be watched on Magenta TV. Both Germany and France have three points in the group A table of the European Championship.

It is worth noting that Sonja Zimmermann and Felicia Wiedermann were absent for the German team due to injury.

Despite Germany's strong history in European hockey, the Netherlands has been the dominant force in recent years, with the Dutch team winning 13 women's EuroHockey titles, including five successive titles up to 2025. In the 2025 Women's EuroHockey Championship final, the Netherlands defeated Germany 2-1 in a closely contested match.

The Dutch women's hockey team continues their sports dominance, as they played the second game of the European Championship against Germany, scoring 5 consecutive goals, which included two by Pien Sanders, one by Frederique Matla, and another by Freeke Moes without any German intervention. In the upcoming game, France will face the defending champions, the Netherlands, in the final round of group A, potentially solidifying their lead in the tournament. Regardless, the Dutch team's hockey prowess has been evident, as they have claimed victory in multiple championship encounters against Germany, including the unforgettable 2-1 win in the 2025 Women's EuroHockey Championship final.
