Environment Minister Sophie Hermans expressed her anger, disappointment, and frustration, while others described Wilders' actions as irresponsible and unnecessary, given the pressing problems in the Netherlands and abroad.

The November 2023 election saw the PVV, led by Islam critic Geert Wilders, become the strongest force for the first time. Since joining the government, the PVV's unstable alliance with the VVD, NSC, and BBB has been fraught with tension.
