Hitting the Big Time: Dutch Police Go After Drug Lord's Millions
Dutch Authorities Pursue Seizure of Drug Lord's Multi-Million Dollar Fortune
Let's talk about the infamous Jos Leijdekkers, one European drug lord who's been dodging the law and living high off the hog. The Dutch justice system is now taking matters into their own hands, determined to grab a piece of Leijdekkers' fortune, estimated to be around 221 million euros.
The Public Prosecutor's office in Rotterdam has requested the seizure of these ill-gotten gains, as announced by the Ministry of Justice. This hefty sum is calculated based on Leijdekkers' expenditure on cocaine transactions and his extravagant lifestyle.
In a mere year, our boy Leijdekkers is said to have flushed 114 million euros down the toilet on 14 cocaine shipments weighing a whopping 14 tons, according to the Ministry of Justice. And to make matters worse, analysis of encrypted communication revealed that ol' Jos went on a gold-buying spree, snapping up a cool 47 million euros worth in just half a year. To add to his gaudy collection, he purchased a Turkish hotel, Dubai apartments, fancy cars, and blingy jewelry.
You may recall that Leijdekkers was sentenced in absentia by a Dutch court to 24 years in prison for smuggling nearly seven tons of coke and ordering a hit. He was also convicted in Belgium, and in February this year, bagged another 13 years for another drug case. Dutch investigators finally managed to locate Leijdekkers in Sierra Leone at the start of the year. Word on the street is that he's planning to marry the president's daughter of this West African nation. Dutch and Belgian media outlets have even reported photos of Leijdekkers with the President of Sierra Leone. If you've got any juicy info leading to his arrest, the Dutch are offering a tidy 200,000 euros reward!
