The Rhine Opera in Düsseldorf is gearing up for an unforgettable new season, with a diverse lineup of operas, ballets, and related performances. Chief conductor Vitali Alekseenok will kick off the season with a potpourri of melodies at the opening concert on September 5.

Pre-sales for the Rhine Opera 2025/26 have begun, and the brochure for the new season is available in the Düsseldorf Opera Shop. Tickets for the opening concert are available at a special price.

One of the highlights of the upcoming season is the first premiere of the local house, Donizetti's lively opera buffa "Prima la Mamma" on October 2. The title role is sung by a baritone.

For ballet enthusiasts, there's Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire" presented as a ballet, created by John Neumeier. Bridget Breiner's choreography of Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty" will also premiere on November 15.

The technique of the local ballet troupe is impeccable, as demonstrated by their performances. A three-part ballet evening titled "Organ Passion" is scheduled for the spring of the next year.

Opera lovers won't want to miss "Pinocchio," a joy for the whole family, starting from October 30. Other operas on the schedule include "Leoš Janáček's "Katja Kabanova" on December 7 and "María de Buenos Aires," a ghostly passion story in the tango rhythm of Astor Piazzolla on February 7, 2026.

Verdict fans can look forward to Verdi's "Il trovatore" directed by Jens-Daniel Herzog on June 27, 2026. Gounod's "Queen of Sheba" will only be performed in concert on May 15.

Richard Strauss's "Elektra" will be produced by Stephan Kimmig on April 12.

The Rhine Opera is currently managed by interim artistic director Marwin Wendt and executive director Alexandra Stampler-Brown. The new Düsseldorf chief choreographer for ballet is Bridget Breiner, and Raphaël Coumes-Marquet is the ballet director for the new season.

The Rhine Opera will start the next season with a budget of 65 million euros, with personnel costs amounting to 47.4 million. The occupancy rate of the Düsseldorf house is around 75%, with some performances reaching 90%.
