Düsseldorfer's Fourth Member, Lisa Schubert, Enters Germany's Federal Parliament

In a historic move, 22-year-old Lisa Schubert has become the youngest member of the German Bundestag, replacing Uwe Foullong who had to resign due to health reasons. Schubert, a student at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, was next in line on the NRW state list.

Schubert, who is in her final year of university studies, majoring in social sciences, achieved an impressive result in the Bundestag election held on February 23. She garnered nearly 10% of the first votes in the Düsseldorf II constituency.

Uwe Foullong, a member of Die Linke, won a seat in the Bundestag for the Bottrop/Recklinghausen III constituency. Foullong was 67 years old at the time of his resignation.

Schubert's election increases the proportion of women in her party in the Bundestag to 56.2%. She joins Luke Hoß (23) and Zada Salihovic (24) as one of the youngest representatives in the German Bundestag.

Thomas Jazombek, Johannes Winkel, and Sara Nanni were also elected as Düsseldorf members of the Bundestag on February 23. However, Johannes Antonian, who is 28 years old and represents the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), remains the youngest elected Member of the Bundestag as of February 2025.

Schubert has expressed her gratitude towards Foullong for his commitment and wishes him a speedy recovery. She intends to be a voice for those who are not heard or deliberately silenced, fighting for an alternative to the current chronic crisis. Her new tasks in the Bundestag involve advocating for a society that leaves no one behind.
