The Düsseldorf EG faced a tough challenge against league-leading ERC Ingolstadt on Thursday, January 2, at 7:30 PM, but their attention was first turned to a close encounter with the Iserlohn Roosters.

The game began with a tense atmosphere, and it wasn't until the 33rd minute that Paul Postma scored the equalizing goal for Düsseldorf EG during a power play. Assists were provided by Alex Ehl and Brendan O'Donnell. The first period ended with the score level at 1:1.

The second period saw both teams battling it out, with the score remaining unchanged. The third period began with a long 117-second penalty kill for Düsseldorf EG, but they managed to hold on. However, the game remained tied at the end of the third period, requiring overtime.

Overtime was goalless, leading to a shootout. Jacob Virtanen scored the first attempt for Düsseldorf EG, but their hopes were dashed as Tyler Gaudet, O'Donnell, and Alex Ehl all failed to score. Meanwhile, the Iserlohn Roosters capitalised on their opportunities, scoring first in the fourth minute and during their 3 against 5 advantage.

The Düsseldorf EG dominated the next ten minutes but failed to score, resulting in a disappointing 1:2 shootout loss. The goal was scored by Eric Cornel from the left side.

Following this defeat, the Düsseldorf EG will have a break, as their originally scheduled opponent Adler Mannheim plays in the DEL Winter Game in Frankfurt on the following Sunday. The next match for Düsseldorfer EG is on September 19, 2025, at 19:30 against Starbulls Rosenheim in the DEL2 league.

Despite the loss, the Düsseldorf EG will regroup and focus on their upcoming game against Ingolstadt, aiming to secure a much-needed victory.
