Dusseldorf EC conceded a point as Iserlohn Roosters emerged victorious from the penalty shootout.

In a thrilling encounter, the table-leading ERC Ingolstadt will face Düsseldorf EG on Thursday, 2nd January, at 7:30 PM. The game, played on the 2nd, saw a nail-biting finish as Düsseldorf EG lost 1:2 in a shootout to the Iserlohn Roosters.

The first goal of the game was scored by Eric Cornel for Iserlohn in the fourth minute, finding the top right corner. However, Düsseldorf responded quickly, with Paul Postma scoring the equaliser in the first power play of the game, assisted by Alex Ehl and Brendan O'Donnell.

The game remained tied until the second intermission, with no further goals scored in the second period. The third period saw a series of exciting events, starting with Düsseldorf EG facing a long 117-second penalty kill at the start. Despite this, Henrik Haukeland, guarding the net for Düsseldorf, was solid during the penalty kill.

Düsseldorf struggled to find their formation in front of nearly 5,000 fans, but they dominated play and created chances for the next ten minutes. However, Andreas Jenike, Iserlohn's goalie, was able to make several saves, keeping the game tied.

In the middle frame, Düsseldorf lost their rhythm, with Iserlohn having the better chances. Shane Gersich and Sinan Akdag had a penalty shot and foul respectively. Another penalty left Düsseldorf shorthanded 3-on-5, but Haukeland denied a big chance for Iserlohn.

The game was decided by a shootout. Jacob Virtanen scored the first attempt for Iserlohn, and Tyler Boland had a chance to score for Düsseldorf but was saved by Haukeland. Gersich's penalty shot was saved by Jenike, and Jenike made a brilliant save on O'Donnell shortly after.

The Düsseldorfer EG will face EHC Freiburg on January 2, 2026, at 19:30. Ryan McKiernan and Bernhard Ebner returned to defense for Düsseldorf EG, with Torsten Ankert out and Moritz Wirth moving to forward. Unfortunately, Olli Mebus, Rick Schofield (both injured), and Tony Boos (U20-WM) were not available for Düsseldorf EG.

Sunday is off as the originally scheduled opponent, Adler Mannheim, plays the DEL Winter Game in Frankfurt on Saturday. Blank hit the post in the 59th minute, but it was not enough to secure a win for Düsseldorf.

Despite the loss, Düsseldorf EG put up a valiant fight against the table-leaders and will look to bounce back in their next game against EHC Freiburg.
