During the summer season, the city vibrantly hosts ski jumping competitions and city sprint races.
Pfullingen, a town in Germany, is all set to become the centre of Nordic skiing action from September 20-21, 2023. Over 200 participants will compete in two exciting events – a ski jumping event on September 20 at the Waldcafé and the City Sprint event on September 21 in the city centre.
The City Sprint, a part of the SBW Trophy and the SSV Langlauf Cup, promises a high-quality starting field. The competition involves inline skates or roller skis and an approximately 700-meter loop between Neuer Mitte and Marktstraße. The event is open to all, and admission is free.
Preliminary rounds for the City Sprint will commence at 10:45 am on September 21, followed by the final runs around 12:30 pm. The competition has been a permanent fixture for para-athletes from the national team in recent years.
The town's ski department, under department leader Gunther Vollmer, considers this weekend's event as the season's highlight. Pfullingen has been making a name for itself in Nordic skiing, with athletes winning state and national championship titles. The internationally competing Nordic skiers from Pfullingen who have participated in European competitions in recent years include athletes like Fabian Rießle and Johannes Rydzek.
Younger age groups in Nordic combined, cross-country, and ski jumping are also making a splash. One such promising talent is Ben Bayer, born in 2004, who is a member of the B squad and has won youth world and Olympic medals. Many Young Eagles athletes from Pfullingen now represent the town at international events across Europe.
To ensure the smooth running of these high-quality events, several sponsors of the ski department will promote themselves during the event. Street sections between Martinskirche and Avia gas station will be closed for the competition on September 21 from 8 am. Affected residents may have restrictions on garage access until around 4 pm on September 21.
Over 70 volunteers have been involved in the event's preparations for months. The town of Pfullingen is looking forward to welcoming skiers and spectators alike for a thrilling weekend of Nordic skiing action.
