Durham Drama Festival Turns 50 in 2025
Durham Drama Festival (DDF) is preparing for its 50th anniversary in 2025, promising to be a significant moment for student theatre in the UK. This milestone event, the main event of the year, will take place between Sunday 16 and Saturday 22 February 2025, serving as a platform for nine pieces of new student writing, showcased across three venues in Durham University. The festival aims to provide a pathway for student writers and theatre practitioners to exhibit their work.
In 2024, DDF's success was evident with four out of six productions transferring to wider festivals, including the National Student Drama Festival (NSDF) and the Edinburgh Fringe. Emily Browning, a DDF participant, won the prestigious Buzz Goodbody Prize at NSDF 2024 for her direction of 'Love and Freindship' by Zara Stokes-Neustadt.
DDF alumni are invited to share their memories and explore involvement in the 50th anniversary celebrations. The event will also feature expert panels offering professional industry advice and mentoring. Current students can get involved in various roles, such as acting, directing, producing, or technical positions.
