Durham Book Festival Returns with LJ Ross, Hannah Lowe, and Live-Streamed Events
Durham Book Festival returns from 13 to 16 October, bringing together bestselling writers, thought leaders, and local talent. This year's event promises live-streamed news, a new short story by LJ Ross, and a special appearance by poet Hannah Lowe as Festival Laureate.
The Festival will take place across various city centre venues, including Gala Theatre and Clayport Library. Several news events will be live-streamed, allowing wider access to the literary celebration.
Hannah Lowe, the award-winning poet and writer, has been named this year's Festival Laureate. She will share her work, unveil a newly commissioned poem, and engage with Durham University students in a unique event.
LJ Ross, the popular local author, has written an exclusive short story, 'The Mystery of the Vanishing Mayor', for this year's Big Read. The story will be distributed across County Durham and made available to University students and staff.
The Festival will also feature discussions on W.H. Auden's works with Jeremy Vine, a Durham alumnus, chaired by Dr Abbie Garrington and introduced by Professor Karen O'Brien. Additionally, the Festival has commissioned research on potential 'New Great Britons', highlighting northern, working-class figures through videos from academics and writers.
The Durham Book Festival promises a diverse range of news, from literary discussions to new film screenings and workshops. The Festival will culminate in the announcement of the Gordon Burn Prize winner, celebrating the best in contemporary writing.
