Kremlin announces summit duration set for six to seven hours - Duration set for Kremlin summit: Six to seven hours
In a much-anticipated meeting, President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin convened in Alaska on a chilly day in 2025. The summit, which was initially planned for a six-hour duration, lasted only three and a half hours.
The meeting was anticipated to focus on several key issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, economic agreements, and diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Russia. The war between Russia and Ukraine, particularly the potential for a ceasefire, was a primary topic of discussion. Trade and investment deals were also on the agenda, as well as efforts to improve relations between the two nations.
Despite high expectations, the meeting ended without significant agreements. The talks did not result in a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine. Both leaders described the meeting as constructive, with President Trump planning to follow up with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, due to the lack of progress on ending the war, discussions on economic incentives, such as joint ventures in oil and minerals, were not pursued.
The Russian side had expressed high hopes for the meeting, expecting real results from this first encounter between Putin and a U.S. president since 2022. Dmitri Peskov, a spokesperson, stated that Putin would arrive punctually at 11:00 local time in Anchorage. President Trump was personally expected to greet Putin at the plane.
The flight time for the route to Anchorage is calculated at four hours. If there are appropriate results, there could be a three-way meeting involving Ukraine, although this was not included in the Anchorage summit. Putin departed from Magadan in the Far East before his journey to Alaska.
In summary, while there were high expectations for the meeting, the actual outcomes were limited, with no significant agreements reached on the key issues discussed. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine remains unresolved, and the potential for improved U.S.-Russia relations will depend on future negotiations.
