Dortmund loans Duranville to Basel - Duranville’s Barcelona Loan: A Fresh Start After Dortmund Struggles

Borussia Dortmund’s 19-year-old Belgian winger Julien Duranville has joined Barcelona on loan. The move comes after a challenging period at Dortmund, where he struggled for first-team opportunities. The loan deal, agreed in January 2026, does not include a permanent transfer option.

Duranville arrived at Barcelona in January 2023 from RSC Anderlecht. However, he has yet to secure a regular place in the senior squad. A shoulder injury kept him sidelined until late October this season, delaying his progress.

After recovering, he featured only for Barcelona’s reserve team in the Regionalliga West. Despite his limited game time, sporting director Sebastian Kehl remains optimistic about his potential. Kehl believes the loan to Barcelona will offer Duranville the regular match experience he needs to develop further. The Spanish La Liga side will now provide the youngster with a fresh opportunity to prove himself.

Duranville’s loan to Barcelona marks a new chapter in his career. The move aims to give him more playing time and accelerate his growth. Barcelona retains his rights, leaving the door open for a future return if he impresses in Spain.
