Lightning Strikes Again: Duplantis Smashes World Record at Home!
Duplantis sets new world record once more
It's another history-making day for pole vault sensation, Armand "Mondo" Duplantis! In the heart of Stockholm, the 25-year-old Swedish superstar shattered his own world record - this time, soaring over 6.28 meters (20 feet, 7 inches) on his initial attempt[1][2][3]!
This breathtaking performance marked the 12th time Duplantis has broken the world record since surpassing the 6.16-meter mark set by Renaud Lavillenie in February 2020. Overwhelmed by the accomplishment, Duplantis shared, "Today, it felt like there was something special in the audience, and it will one of the nicest memories of my career I believe. I really wanted to do it here in Stockholm in front of all these people."[2]
Unfortunately for Tokyo Olympics long jump champion, Malaika Mihambo (LG Kurpfalz), she narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in fourth place even with a personal best leap of 6.75 meters[2]. Meanwhile, Gina Lückenkemper, a former 100-meter European champion, showed off her versatility by sprinting a personal best of 22.76 seconds in the 200 meters, a distance she rarely competes on[2].
While the spotlight was undeniably on Duplantis' record-breaking moment, a notable performance from the 3000-meter steeplechase saw Karl Bebendorf from Dresden set a stunning new personal best of 8:11.81 minutes[2], and the German Athletics Association (DLV) celebrated a victory in the women's discus as Olympic silver medalist Kirstin Pudenz won with a throw of 64.86 meters in her first attempt[2].
