Duplantis, Olympic pole vault champion, penning new records at Diamond League Oslo event.
Mondo Duplantis Climbs Pole Vault Heights Once Again, Aims for World Record in Stockholm
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Armand "Mondo" Duplantis kept his winning streak alive in pole vault, dominating the Diamond League meet in Oslo with a record-breaking jump of 6.15 meters. Only Emmanouil Karalis from Greece came close, clearing 5.82 meters, while Australian Kurtis Marschall third with 5.72m.
Duplantis cleared 5.62m and 5.82m in his initial attempts with ease. By the second round, he was the only athlete remaining who could truly challenge Karalis, Marschall, and Paris 2024 bronze medallist Renaud Lavillenie. As competitors fell out of the race, Duplantis's reign continued. Karalis and Duplantis were the last two left battling it out for the top spot.
After Duplantis effortlessly cleared 5.92m, Karalis struggled and was eliminated. The Swede then attempted 6.03m but missed it on the first two tries before finally getting over the bar on the third attempt, setting a new meet record.
Duplantis was ecstatic about the performance, stating, "I am really glad about it. It was a nice jump. I didn't have my mind super fixated on any height really, I just felt that things were turning out, it was possible to jump a meet record here in Oslo by far. Really happy with that."
Looking ahead, Duplantis is eyeing the Diamond League meet in Stockholm, where he hopes to shatter the world record currently held by himself at 6.27 meters. He expressed, "On Sunday in Stockholm, it would be an absolute dream to break the world record. In fact, I could retire if I do! At the moment, the forecast is good for Sunday, and I am feeling good, I am in good shape, so who knows? It may be possible."
Mondo Duplantis's outstanding performances and record-breaking aspirations solidify his status as a formidable force in men's pole vault. Duplantis has won all three Diamond League pole vault events he's participated in this year, and with his sights set on breaking his world record in Stockholm, the pole vault community eagerly awaits his historic feat.
News about the upcoming Diamond League meet in Stockholm indicates that Mondo Duplantis aims to break his own world record in pole vault, as he successfully climbed heights with relative ease in his recent competition in Oslo. According to Duplantis's opinion, he seems optimistic about his chances, expressing that he could potentially retire if he achieves this record-breaking feat.
