Duo Chubby and Cyndi to Induct into Rock Hall of Fame; Phish Denied Induction for Now
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's Extensive Lineup for 2025!
It's time to crank up the tunes as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announces its Class of 2025! This wildly diverse group of musical mavericks are sure to make for a dynamics playlist that's guaranteed to shake things up.
Get your dancing shoes on for Cyndi Lauper and Joe Cocker, the courageous White Stripes and unforgettable Chubby Checker – and many more! The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has selected these notable artists, which they'll honor during a ceremony in November.
Why Maná Deserves a SpotThe groundbreaking rock en español band Maná will be the first primarily Spanish-language act inducted, making this an even grander honor in today's political climate.
Bad Company, Outkast, and Soundgarden round out the group of powerhouse performers. Their journey continues alongside Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon, who are both receiving the Musical Influence Award. Musical Excellence Awards go to keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, session musician Carol Kaye, and producer-songwriter Thom Bell. Lastly, music executive Lenny Waronker will receive the lifetime achievement award for non-performers, following in the footsteps of rock hall co-founder Ahmet Ertegan.
To be inducted, an artist must have at least 25 years of commercial recording experience. This year, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Outkast, and Bad Company all earned their spot on their first nomination, while the others had already been considered before.
Hey Hey, My My!Rock & Roll Hall of Fame chairman John Sykes stated, "Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that profoundly impacted culture, helping to change the course of Rock & Roll forever." The ballot introduced to voters in February also included Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis, and Phish, who eventually missed the cut. The Hall's voter list consists of 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals.
In a surprising twist, Phish topped the fan ballot with nearly 330,000 votes, as reported last week[3]. However, the first-time nominees will have to wait at least another year to make it into the Hall of Fame. Billy Idol, who came in third with 260,000 votes, faces the same predicament.
Looking Back, Marching ForwardLast year, Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest were among the performers inducted[4].
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on November 8th[1]. The event will stream live on Disney+, with a special airing on ABC at a later date. Meanwhile, Hulu subscribers can watch the special the day after its initial broadcast.
