Dump truck accident in County Cork results in 40-year-old man's demise
In two separate incidents that occurred today in County Cork, a man and a woman lost their lives in road traffic collisions.
In Ballycotton, a man in his 40s died after an incident involving a dumper truck. Gardai and emergency services arrived on the scene this afternoon, and the L3633 road has been closed to traffic due to the incident, with local diversions in place. The man was carrying out works in the area when an accident occurred, and he was struck by his heavy goods vehicle.
Garda forensic collision investigators are due to attend the scene, and the man's body is set to be removed to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem examination. The Health and Safety Authority has been notified about the incident, and Gardaí in Cork city are leading the investigation for this incident.
In a separate incident, a 27-year-old woman died in Cork city after a collision involving a cyclist and a truck. The alarm was raised at 3.30pm, and the incident occurred at Church Road. The woman was attended to by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been removed to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination, expected to take place on Friday.
Garda forensic crash examiner is conducting work at the scene, and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or motorists with video footage of the area at the time to share this with investigators. The road has been closed and traffic diversions have been put in place.
