Fresh Tack: Harry's Raging War with the Royals and the Government over Security

Prince Harry didn't mince words when he went ballistic on his family, the Royal Household, and the Government, shortly after his legal battle for enhanced security in the UK bit the dust.

Once known as the Duke of Sussex, Harry voiced his fury following a ruling from the Court of Appeal that rejected his plea to overturn the Home Office's decision to downgrade his security following his exit from his royal duties in 2020. The decision, he angrily proclaims, smacks of an old-school establishment trickery.

Harry's ire stems from the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), who determined that Harry and his brood would receive a different level of protection on their visits to the UK. When the Sussexes vacated their royal positions and relocated to Montecito, California, Ravec deemed their family no longer qualified for comprehensive security in the UK, although they still receive state-funded protection on a case-by-case basis.

Flabbergasted by the decision, Harry broadcasted his concerns that the ruling could set a new precedent for controlling family members.

"It creates this impression that security can be used to control members of the family," Harry bluntly states. "And that effectively means what it does is, it traps other members of the family from choosing a different lifestyle."

These conversations on BBC with journalist Nada Tawfik unveiled that the security saga is the primary hurdle in repairing relationships with his family. According to Harry, "100 percent."

Beyond the security setbacks, family affairs are another sticking point. The explosive revelations Harry unleashed in his memoir "Spare," his Netflix documentary series with Meghan, and their interview with Oprah Winfrey leave a sour taste in the mouths of his family members.

Among the jaw-dropping claims are Harry's accounts of physical assault by Prince William and the King's failure to hug him when Princess Diana passed away. The Oprah interview in 2021 revealed that unnamed royals had expressed concerns about Prince Archie's skin tone. In December 2022, Harry spoke of the "huge level of unconscious bias" within the Royal Family during the Netflix documentary.

But in January 2023, during an interview with ITV, he asserted that "silence is betrayal" concerning the palace's apparent neglect in defence of himself and Meghan.

Harry also raised concerns about his personal safety, claiming he faces greater dangers than Princess Diana, thanks to additional layers of racism and extremism. With al-Qaeda seeking retribution after he publicly acknowledged killing 25 Taliban fighters during his deployment in Afghanistan, Harry argues that known and ignored threats from extremists pose a grave danger to his family.

During the BBC interview, he explained that numerous risks and threats known in 2020—including the al-Qaeda threat—have been casually disregarded and ignored.

"That role that everyone knows that myself and my wife wish to carry on but was stopped from being able to do that back in 2020," Harry pointed out.

In response to the interview, Harry declared he has faced threats from neo-Nazis and extremists, emphasizing that there are individuals behind bars because of similar threats.

However, a senior security source told The Times that the risks Prince Harry faced in the past no longer apply, as his status as fifth in line to the throne has changed, meaning he should face fewer threats when he's in the UK.

Despite the doubts cast on his safety, Harry's resolve to seek a return to his former status remains steadfast. If there's one thing he can't escape, it's his affiliation with the Royal Family. Despite his shift in roles, Harry insists he will forever remain a member of the family and cannot evade the associated risks.

"I don't want history to repeat itself," Harry warns, alluding to a darker motive for the decision in 2020.

Some critics argue that, despite Harry's quest for privacy, his subsequent public appearances through Netflix shows, podcasts, and interviews indicate a lack of sincerity in his intent. In March 2025, Meghan's latest Netflix series, "With Love, Meghan," was renewed for a second season, further raising eyebrows.
