Duisburger Film Week 2025 Kicks Off with 'Pause' Theme

The 49th Duisburger Film Week, also known as the Duisburger DokFest, begins on November 3, 2025, with the theme 'Pause'. This year's festival, running until November 9, presents 22 films from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It includes the doxs! Film Week for young audiences, showcasing over 30 short films from 20 countries. The festival is packed with diverse topics and thought-provoking discussions. The doxs! festival's awards are chosen by a youth jury, adding a unique perspective to the selection process. Six awards, totalling €29,000, will be presented. Among these is the 'Andocken' Prize, worth €5,000, awarded to an outstanding documentary project concept by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. The recipient of this year's prize remains undisclosed. The festival explores various themes, such as 'Life on a Palliative Care Ward' by Philipp Döring and archival footage of Gaza. Following each screening, filmmakers engage in discussions with the audience, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the films. The Duisburger Film Week, with its accompanying doxs! festival, offers a rich cinematic experience, encouraging reflection and resistance, as highlighted by the theme 'Pause'. With its diverse lineup and interactive approach, the festival promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking event.
