The Bundesliga season ends on a sour note for Holstein Kiel and VfL Bochum, with both teams being relegated to lower divisions. Kiel, the first team from Schleswig-Holstein to compete in the top-tier, gets demoted immediately, while Bochum will be playing in the 2nd Bundesliga next year. The teams fail to secure wins on the final matchday.

VfL Bochum - 1. FSV Mainz 05 1:4 (0:1)

Bochum's seven-year stint in the Bundesliga comes to an end, with their defeat against FSV Mainz 05 signaling their relegation. The team under coach Dieter Hecking lost their home game 1:4 (0:1) and can no longer compete for the relegation playoff spots with 22 points remaining on the last matchday.

Goals for Mainz were scored by Nadiem Amiri (45.+3), Phillipp Mwene (53'), Jonathan Burkardt (73'), and Paul Nebel (90.+3). Mainz continues their chase for European competition after seven winless games. Bochum's solitary goal came from Gerrit Holtmann (84.), but it wasn't enough to change their fate.

The match began with Myron Boadu filling in for the injured Philipp Hofmann for Bochum, and Lasse Rieß stepping in as the substitute goalkeeper for Robin Zentner of Bochum, due to his muscular issues. Bochum struggled to create offensive opportunities, while Mainz dominated the game with Ivan Ordets (9.) clearing Mwene's header off the line in desperation. Bochum's best chance in the first half almost resulted in an own goal by Stefan Bell (23.). The team tried to maintain a clean sheet at halftime, but Amiri's stunning away goal in added time ended that plan.

Despite strong support from the fans, Bochum's offense faltered, and Mainz took control. Holtmann (47.) tested Rieß immediately, but Mwene (60') scored on the counterattack to put Bochum fans in tears. However, a throw-in was not awarded to Bochum before the goal.

Holstein Kiel - SC Freiburg 1:2 (1:1)

Emotions run high in the north, as Holstein Kiel's Bundesliga journey ends after just one year. SC Freiburg dreams of a historic Champions League run. While Kiel's hopes of continuing in the Bundesliga evaporate after a 1:2 (1:1) loss to Freiburg, Schuster's reigning team of the season is close to qualifying for the Champions League.

Johan Manzambi (45.+2) and Lukas Höler (58') secured Freiburg's 16th win of the season, while Kiel can look forward to more high-level football against Borussia Dortmund before their return to the 2nd Bundesliga.

The match began with Kiel demonstrating offensive aggression, but Freiburg countered with determination. Almost immediately, Freiburg had a chance through Ritsu Doan (3'), but Kiel responded with growing self-confidence against the top team. Steven Skrzybski (9') after a rebound, and the impressive Alexander Bernhardsson (22') put the Freiburg goalkeeper, Noah Atubolu, under pressure. The opening goal came when the ball ricocheted off Matthias Ginter's shot and into the net 17 seconds later. Freiburg continued to apply immense pressure, with Vincenzo Grifo (28') hitting the post, and a header from Junior Adamu (36') narrowly missing.

The second half saw Kiel fighting back bravely, but Schuster's team maintained their focus and efficiency. Despite Kiel's resilience, they were unable to avoid relegation.

1. FC Union Berlin - 1. FC Heidenheim 0:3 (0:1)

  1. FC Heidenheim ensures its survival in the Bundesliga, securing at least the relegation playoffs. With a commanding 3:0 (1:0) win against Union Berlin, Heidenheim maintains a two-point lead over FC St. Pauli in the race for survival. Union's eight-game unbeaten streak comes to an end.

Adrian Beck (12', 73') and Jan Schöppner (56') scored for Heidenheim. Both teams feel each other out for a prolonged period before Schöppner nets early from a Heidenheim attack. Union struggles to create dangerous scoring opportunities for the rest of the game, allowing Heidenheim to consolidate its position in the Bundesliga.

Werder Bremen - Rasenballsport Leipzig 0:0

Leipzig's Champions League dreams are shattered, as they cannot secure more than a disappointing 0:0 draw against Werder Bremen on the penultimate Bundesliga matchday. The team now faces elimination from the fight for European competition appearances. Meanwhile, Werder Bremen loses its last hope of European competition as a top-six finish becomes almost impossible.

Bremen begins strongly, creating a big chance after just 180 seconds, but Marvin Ducksch misses from six meters. The hosts dominate the game but should have taken the lead in the 38th minute. After a fine pass from Ducksch, Romano Schmid suddenly finds himself one-on-one with Peter Gulacsi but fails to beat the Hungarian. Leipzig, missing the suspended David Raum and Kevin Kampl, struggles to create chances and fails to test Werder keeper Michael Zetterer significantly throughout the game.

With both Bochum and Kiel's relegation from the Bundesliga, it marks the first time in seven years that Leipzig will miss the Champions League. Leipzig currently stands at 7th place, far from its usual competition placement.
