The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) plans to host the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) games in the UAE could be in jeopardy. Insider intel suggests that the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) might reject the PCB's request due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
Security concerns intensified by the escalating international dispute are suspected as the main reason for the possible rejection. The ECB's relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has become increasingly strong, thanks to hosting the ICC T20 World Cup, various IPL games, and India-centric ICC Champions Trophy matches.
"The UAE's diverse South Asian population deeply enjoys cricket. However, hosting an event like PSL in a political powder keg might disrupt harmony, boost security risks, and stir unnecessary distrust among communities," the source explained.
Pakistan announced this morning that the final eight PSL matches, previously scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Lahore, will now shift to the UAE. A schedule detailing dates and venues will be disclosed shortly, according to the PCB's statement.
Recently, the PCB canceled a match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings at the Rawalpindi stadium. The decision follows the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, where 26 tourists lost their lives. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, targeting and neutralizing nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Versus Rohit Sharma's abrupt retirement, Indian news outlets conjecture that the team management perhaps betrayed his trust[3].
