Mexico Shines at Chengdu 2025 World Games
Mexico continues to make a significant impact in the world of sports, particularly at the Chengdu 2025 World Games. The country won its seventh medal with Anahi Alvarez Corral's triumph in the women's individual duathlon.
Alvarez Corral, hailing from Durango, clinched the silver medal with a time of 1:25.31, narrowly missing out on gold. In an intense final stretch, she outpaced Spanish competitor Maria Varo to secure the victory. This win marked Mexico's seventh medal at the Chengdu Games.
Mexico's medal tally now stands at nine, including three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. The country has demonstrated its versatility by participating in a diverse range of sports at the Games, such as archery, muaythai, racquetball, cheerleading, parkour, and duathlon.
In archery, Andrea Becerra brought home another medal for Mexico, winning the gold in the women's individual compound event. Manuel Cisneros and Jose Moreno also secured a bronze medal in adapted ju-jitsu duo. Mexico's Sebastian Garcia and Andrea Becerra also won the silver medal in the mixed team compound archery event.
The Chengdu 2025 World Games showcases a variety of non-Olympic and emerging sports. Other notable performances include Laura Burgos's gold medal win in the Muaythai, -54 kg category.
In addition to these, the Games featured the debut of MotoSurf (Powerboating), Drone Sports, Ultimate Flying Disc, and Fistball. China Taipei stunned the dominant Netherlands in Beach Korfball, winning the gold medal, while China secured gold medals in B-Boy and B-Girl breaking events and in both men’s and women’s Classic Slalom in Inline Freestyle Skating.
With over 220,000 visitors witnessing these highlights over 11 days, China finished as the top nation with 36 gold medals, several from non-Olympic sports including breaking and inline skating.
Despite the limited disclosure of complete participant lists and all medal results for each non-Olympic discipline, the Chengdu 2025 World Games has successfully showcased and promoted a broad spectrum of non-Olympic and emerging sports, with China and nations like Chinese Taipei, Denmark, and Belgium achieving notable success in various events.
