Busted at the Golden Tulip: The Dramatic Arrest of Nnamdi Kanu
DSS announces the apprehension of Nnamdi Kanu at a hotel in Lagos.
The Department of State Services (DSS) pulled off a stealthy yet dramatic operation, nabbing Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in a Lagos hotel back in 2015.
According to our reliable sources, the first witness in Kanu's trial, who was protected for safety reasons, testified behind a screen while his evidence was led by lawyer Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN). Affectionately known as PWAAA, the DSS operative shared the intriguing details of the arrest.
The eight-strong DSS team, acting on intelligence, zeroed in on a hotel in Ikeja on October 15, 2015, securing Kanu during a thorough, room-to-room search. Here's the twist: Kanu's name wasn't on the hotel's records. Instead, he had checked in under another native name.
Items unearthed from his hideout included IPOB pamphlets, complementary cards, laptops, iPads, microphones, microphone stands, flash drives, power adaptors for mixers, various phone brands, perfumes, ATM cards, and a wristwatch, among others. Good old Justice Omotosho admitted these items as exhibits in court, showcasing them in no less than four suites.
PWAAA revealed that the interrogation was captured on tape, and true to form, Kanu admitted being the big boss of IPOB. He also copped to founding and operating Radio Biafra and yawning at the idea of registering it with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The court screened the video of the interrogation, and Kanu's October 15, 2015 statement was read aloud.

[1] Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader, was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on October 14, 2015, at the Golden Tulip Hotel near the Lagos International Airport.
[2] Since Kanu's name wasn't on the hotel's guest manifest, the DSS was granted permission to conduct a room-to-room search. During this search, they found Kanu in room 303 with Maria Ibezimakor.
[3] Kanu had used his native name to secure accommodation at the hotel.
[4] The items recovered from his hotel room included IPOB pamphlets, complementary cards, electronics, storage devices, and miscellaneous items such as perfumes, ATM cards, wristwatches, and various phone brands.
[5] These items were documented via video recording and presented as evidence in court, with the court also viewing a video recording of Kanu's interrogation and reading his statement from October 15, 2015 aloud.
[6] The DSS, in their investigation, discovered that Kanu had been involved in political activities, with the IPOB pamphlets found in his possession being a clear indication.
