Woman Hit by Car - Hit-and-Run Ends in the Netherlands - Drunk driver flees after hitting pedestrian near Schalke’s stadium

A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car near the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. The incident occurred following the 2. Bundesliga match between Schalke and Paderborn. Police later apprehended a 29-year-old Dutch resident suspected of driving under the influence and fleeing the scene.

The collision took place shortly after the football match ended. Witnesses at the scene noted the vehicle’s Dutch licence plate, which helped authorities track it down. The driver allegedly did not stop and left the injured woman behind.

The car was later intercepted near Arnhem after crossing the border into the Netherlands. Officers took a blood sample from the suspected driver, who appeared to be intoxicated. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old victim suffered injuries to her forehead, shoulder, and both knees, requiring hospital treatment.

The vehicle was seized and transported back to Gelsenkirchen for forensic examination. Authorities also recorded the identities of any passengers present during the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, with Dutch and German police cooperating on the case. The suspect, a 29-year-old resident of the Netherlands, faces charges related to hit-and-run and drink-driving. The injured woman continues to receive medical care for her wounds.
