Drug-related tragedy: Teddy Gowan's fatal night of indulgence
In the fifth episode of Casualty's Supply and Demand series, airing on BBC1 on 2 August 2025, the medical drama delves deeper into the personal and professional lives of its characters. This week, the focus is on Teddy Gowan, a paramedic, who faces escalating health fears and the dangerous consequences of his attempts to hide his heart condition from his colleagues.
Teddy's situation becomes critical when he resorts to taking deadly drugs during a night out, an act that is witnessed by his colleague Iain Dean. His desperate measures to keep his condition a secret further unravel his web of lies and heighten the tension in his storyline.
The episode also sheds light on a deadly batch of party pills circulating in Holby, causing patients to flood the ED suffering from symptoms of synthetic opioid overdose. Amidst the chaos, Teddy covers up his distressing symptoms during a shout-out, adding another layer of complexity to his character's arc.
Meanwhile, Teddy's relationship with his co-worker Indie Jankowski remains strained due to a past event involving her father. The return of Casualty this week also sees Teddy and Indie paired together, potentially offering a chance for their relationship to improve.
Elsewhere in the ED, Cassie Woods brings her deathly ill friend Steph Miles into the ED, placing Nicole Piper in a difficult situation. The new nightclub, Euphoria, launches coinciding with a music festival and graduation celebrations, but Siobhan McKenzie and Jan, the senior medics, find themselves unable to contact the younger medics during the shift.
As the investigation into the morphine theft continues, Faith Cadogan suspects Jacob Masters could be the paramedic responsible. Rash Masum considers taking Sunny Callahan on an unusual first date, providing a moment of light-heartedness amidst the series' focus on pharmaceutical drug issues and their impact on the characters and community.
In the midst of all this, Siobhan's son Ben is out celebrating and uncontactable, adding another layer of tension to the episode. With each passing week, Casualty continues to deliver gripping storylines and thought-provoking themes, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.
