In the wake of setbacks in the coalition agreement, such as the heat transition and coal phase-out, Schneider must ensure that the Black-Red alliance makes some progress on this issue, Drye insists. The SPD politician had previously expressed reservations about a general acceleration of the coal phase-out to 2030, due to technical hurdles and job worries.
Drye also harbors expectations that the Green MPs will veto Friedrich Merz (CDU) becoming federal chancellor. Merz's politics are largely outdated, with little focus on climate protection and social justice. To date, Merz has been a divisive figure rather than a unifier in the country. "There's no green support for such politics," asserted the faction leader.
The faction leader also vowed to ensure that the Greens' next stint in government does not take too long. "Our aim is to have the Greens in the next federal government again," she reiterated emphatically.
Drye voiced criticism towards outgoing federal chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). "Ultimately, he didn't fulfill the role a chancellor should, namely keeping a coalition together," she noted. Scholz bears the blame for the traffic light coalition's demise after just over three and a half years. "He lacked leadership," she accused the SPD politician.
