Drones of Ukrainian origin brought down in Krasnodar region
On August 8, 2025, a series of drone attacks were launched by Ukrainian forces against Russian territory, specifically targeting Krasnodar Krai. The attacks occurred between noon and 3 PM local time, and sirens were sounded in the Krasnodar Krai due to the drone attacks.
The previous drone attacks on Russian territory had occurred on August 8 as well. On that day, the Kyiv regime targeted Russian territory with a drone attack, with the impact on the civilian population or infrastructure in Krasnodar Krai not being detailed.
Air defense systems were once again active in Krasnodar Krai to intercept drones, with at least four Ukrainian drones being shot down over the region. However, the exact number of drones shot down in this second attack is not specified. The specific locations where the drones were shot down in this second attack are also not specified.
One drone-type UAV was shot down over Ryazan Oblast, while ten drone-type UAVs were shot down over Kaluga Oblast. Two more drones were destroyed over the Azov Sea and one over Adygea. Twelve drone-type UAVs were shot down over Bryansk Oblast.
The operation of airports in Krasnodar Krai was non-operational due to the drone attacks. The attacks also caused injuries in Krasnodar Krai and Belgorod regions, with at least four people wounded.
The most significant impact of the drone attacks was on the Afipsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai, a strategic facility processing about 6 million metric tons of crude oil annually and important for Russian military logistics. The drone strike ignited a fire at a gas condensate processing unit, which emergency crews extinguished by early morning.
Russian air defense responses involved significant drone shootdowns, with dozens destroyed overnight and at least 82 reported downed in the Krasnodar region alone on August 7-8. These active defensive measures indicate the continuing escalation and intensification of drone warfare on Russian soil from Ukrainian forces as of August 2025.
The affected regions in this period include Krasnodar Krai (Afipsky refinery, military sites near Slavyansk-na-Kubani), Belgorod region (regional government HQ hit), and other parts of Southern and Western Russia such as Rostov, Volgograd, Crimea, and others experienced drone attacks with varying impacts.
