Drones obliterate over 80 targets across Russia during night-time operations
In several regions of southern Russia, a series of drone attacks have caused disruption and damage, according to reports.
The Volgograd region was the site of a fire at the Surikovino railway station, caused by a drone attack. Fortunately, there were no damages to objects at the station, and railway traffic is operating normally. Elsewhere, demining teams are working at the scene of the drone debris at the Maxim Gorky railway station in the Volgograd region. Small fires were recorded in the Krasnarmeisky district after the drone debris fell, but they were quickly extinguished by firefighters.
In the Rostov region, information about the consequences on the ground is being clarified, and there are no reports of injuries. However, in Slaviansk-on-Kuban, a private house was targeted, resulting in shattered windows and the destruction of an outbuilding. Remarkably, no one was injured in the attack.
The Ukrainian drone attacks extended to the Krasnodar region, specifically targeting the village of Afipski and nearby sites like Slavyansk-on-Kuban. The strikes caused significant military and industrial damage, with at least 12 Russian soldiers from the 90th Anti-aircraft Missile Brigade killed and dozens wounded in Afipski on August 8[1]. Additionally, local authorities reported at least four people wounded in drone attacks in Krasnodar and Belgorod regions[3].
The Afipskiy oil refinery was hit, igniting a fire at a technical unit processing gas and gas condensate. The fire was extinguished by local emergency crews by early morning, but it caused strategic disruption at a refinery processing about 6 million metric tons of crude oil annually, crucial for Russian military fuel needs[2][3]. Military equipment at the missile brigade site was also destroyed[1].
The nearby town of Slavyansk-on-Kuban was also struck by drones, with reports of emergency alerts and local resident confirmations[3]. The region was placed under an "anti-terrorist operation regime," with emergency services and ambulances present.
Russian local special services sealed off the attack area and imposed security measures to conceal the attack's true nature[1]. Russian air defenses claimed to have shot down many Ukrainian drones during a series of mass attacks across several regions, including Krasnodar[3]. Despite these claims, the Ukrainian drone strikes resulted in fires and operational disruption of key infrastructure[3].
In total, eleven drones were intercepted over Crimea, ten over the Rostov region, nine over the Krasnodar region, seven over the Volgograd region, four over the Belgorod region, one over the Kursk region, and one over the Oryol region. An attack by unmanned boats was repelled in the waters near Novorossiysk with no casualties or damage. Thirty-one drones were neutralized over the Azov Sea, and eight over the Black Sea. A man was injured in Slaviansk-on-Kuban due to debris from a drone attack, and he is currently receiving medical assistance.
- The escalating war-and-conflicts between Ukraine and Russia have extended to the realm of politics, with the recent drone attacks in several regions causing significant damage and disruption, as seen in the general news reports.
- In addition to war-and-conflicts, crime-and-justice issues have also arisen in the wake of these drone attacks, with both military and civilian structures in various regions being targeted, leading to casualties and damage.
