Drone Attacks Cause Damage and Injuries in Eastern Ukraine

In a series of drone attacks in the Donetsk region, two separate incidents occurred on August 1, 2023, and August 2, 2023.

On August 1, 2023, the town of Pokrovsk was the target of an attack using "Geran-2" drones. The attack resulted in damage to two residential buildings, a market, a store, an administrative building, and several cars. The exact number of hits during this attack remains unspecified. Regrettably, this attack claimed the lives of two residents of Donetsk.

Just a day later, on August 2, 2023, the city of Druzhkovka was hit by another drone attack. The city center was targeted, resulting in damage to a shopping complex, three administrative buildings, a store, and 9 civilian vehicles. This attack left at least 8 individuals injured, including six women aged 22 to 71, and a 57-year-old man.

Emergency services responded promptly at both the Pokrovsk and Druzhkovka sites, providing first aid and evacuating people from burning buildings.

These attacks underscore the ongoing danger to civilians in front-line towns in the Donbas region. Ukrainian officials have urged remaining residents to evacuate due to the high risk. Druzhkovka is situated approximately 15 kilometers from Chasiv Yar, a notably active front-line area.

Some reports and Russian military Telegram channels suggested that the Druzhkivka attack may have targeted the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centre (TCC), but Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed this.

These incidents mark an intensified wave of drone assaults by Russian forces in the region, highlighting the continued conflict and its impact on the civilian population. The total number of casualties in the Donetsk region due to these recent attacks remains unspecified.

  • The recent drone attacks on the towns of Pokrovsk and Druzhkovka in the Donetsk region, as reported on August 1 and 2, 2023, respectively, are a stark reminder of the ongoing war-and-conflicts in this region.
  • These attacks, as well as their impact on the civilian population, are significant general-news topics, and they also raise concerns about crime-and-justice, specifically the targeting of civilian areas and the resulting casualties.
